How many veneers do you need?

The number determines the cost more than any other factor. Most people get 6 or 8.

2-4 veneers

Targeted$1,600-$10,000

For specific teeth only. A chipped front tooth, two discolored teeth, or a minor gap. Color matching is more challenging with fewer veneers since adjacent teeth stay natural. Your dentist may suggest a trial with temporary veneers before committing.

Best suited for

  • +Single chipped or cracked tooth
  • +One or two noticeably discolored teeth
  • +Minor asymmetry on specific teeth

6 veneers (canine to canine)

Most common$4,800-$15,000

Covers the six front teeth visible in a full smile. This is by far the most common choice. It gives a consistent color and shape across everything people see. The canines form natural boundaries so the veneers blend in well.

Best suited for

  • +Discoloration across all front teeth
  • +Multiple chips or worn teeth
  • +Wanting a consistently brighter, more even smile

8 veneers (including premolars)

Extended smile$6,400-$20,000

Adds the first premolars. Visible when laughing or in profile. Many patients who opt for 6 veneers later notice the premolars look different and return for 2 more. Some dentists recommend going to 8 upfront to avoid this.

Best suited for

  • +Wide smile that shows premolars
  • +Want complete consistency
  • +Existing premolar discoloration

10-12 veneers (full smile makeover)

Full makeover$8,000-$30,000

Extends to second premolars and sometimes first molars. This is a total smile transformation. More common in celebrity dentistry and TV makeover shows than in everyday practice. Most patients do not need this many.

Best suited for

  • +Severe discoloration or wear across all visible teeth
  • +Changing the entire bite appearance
  • +Combining with other restorative work

The digital mock-up step

Before your dentist removes any enamel, they will create a digital preview of your result. This can be a 3D model on screen, a physical wax-up on plaster casts, or temporary composite applied to your teeth so you can literally smile in the mirror and see the outcome.

Do not skip this step. It is where you decide on the shade (how bright), the shape (square or more tapered), and the number. Some people see the mock-up for 6 and immediately want 8 because they can see the premolars. Others realize 4 is all they need. This is the checkpoint that saves you from expensive regret.
